We had a great time at the farm on Friday! All the kiddos were on their best behavior and they were respectful and learned a lot. Thanks again to those parents who helped out on the field trip!!! We are lucky to have parents join us for events like that. This week we will be beginning our unit on informational writing, discussing non-fiction texts, learning about the continents and working on measurement in math. Keep an eye out for information regarding our "Story Book Parade" that will happen on October 31st. Children will get to wear their story book costume as we parade around the K, 1st and 2nd grade hallways!! They will need to bring their book and book report about their book. :)
Another week is coming to an end! We did lots of exciting activities this week. Our focus in literacy was looking for problems in stories and writing about a problem in our narrative piece. We are also keeping our eyes open for all the other elements of narrative writing: setting, characters, beginning, middle, end, sequential order and that narrative writing tells a story. Keep a look out for these elements in the stories you read at home! This week we also talked about using nice words with our friends and problem solving in a respectful, peaceful manner. Next week we have game party on Monday, CoGAT testing during the week and the field trip on Friday! Busy busy times!!
As we wrap up this week before break I am reflecting on the past six weeks of school. We have had our ups and downs but we are finally settling into a very strong classroom community and team. I am SO happy to see the students work as teammates and problem solve with one another. Our Daily Five literacy block is coming along very well. We have mastered read to self, read to someone and are beginning to work on writing independently. I am also thrilled with how M.A.T.H. rotations are going. M.A.T.H. rotations consist of Math Facts, At your Seat, Teachers Choice and Hands On. The students work independently at each station and they are doing fantastic. I am so excited for this year and all the fun memories it will bring. I hope you all have a wonderful fall break!
